Hancock Yacht Club, North Carolina

Hancock Yacht Club

Our mission is to encourage and support a wide range of boating activities, grow membership, hold events, help the community and to maintain the clubhouse for the recreational and social use of its members. The Hancock Yacht Club is a year-round boating club that provides both new and experienced sail and power boaters with a like-minded group of folks who enjoy the water.

Hancock Yacht Club was established in 1956 as a boating club and our goal is to spread the word that we are truly a boating club, not just a sailing club. We are located at the beautiful Hancock Marina aboard Marine Corps Air Station, Cherry Point. We are open to all military service personnel as well as civilian members.

Besides serving as a venue/slips for boaters, we also provide other services for the community. We have U.S. Power Squadron vessel safety inspectors who provide service to all active duty and retired military and other authorized users of the Hancock Marina and Launch Ramp facilities. We also support the following communities and organizations:

  • HYC has sponsored the Boy Scouts & Cubs Scout aboard MCAS Cherry Point for the past several years.

  • USMC Toys for Tots

  • Families and Communities in need such as the food bank and Coastal Women's shelter.

Our Club’s History

Hancock Yacht Club in North Carolina was established in 1956 by several Marines as a social organization for recreational boating. We are the oldest private organization aboard MCAS and the oldest yacht club in the Marine Corps. We are also a sustaining member of the U.S. Sailing Association.

For more than 50 years, we have supported competitive sailing on the Neuse River and have been sponsoring a yearly regatta since the 1960's. This is the oldest regatta on the Neuse River.

Achievements and Contributions

Hancock Yacht Club takes pride in the contributions and achievements of its members. One of our long-time members has served as the Hancock Marina Dockmaster for MCCS (Special Services/ Rec. Services) for several years since 1999. This has paved the way for Hancock Yacht Club to assist MCCS with dock and slip assignments and provide assistance to authorized visiting vessels. In addition, HYC has provided certified instructors to MCCS to teach safe boating courses.

HYC also has members who are U.S. Power Squadron vessel safety inspectors who provide this service to all active duty and retired military and other authorized users of the Hancock Marina and Launch Ramp facilities.

Since the 60s, Hancock Yacht Club has accomplished minor repairs and maintenance to the docks and slips. We are pleased to announce that all docks were rebuilt by MCCS in 2013.
